At the base of all PRIMECLUSTER services is the Cluster Foundation. This layer is built close to the operating system and provides all the high-speed links between nodes, the heartbeats, and the abstraction of the global file system elements.
The Reliant Monitor Services provided the high-availability services. This is where all of the resource detectors and recovery rules that make up the application service reside.
Parallel Application Services are a suite of tools that allow nodes to operate in parallel while running Oracle parallel database services. PAS uses the RMS facilities to monitor and govern the action of individual nodes, and facilitates the inter-nodal communication via a low-latency VIA (Virtual Interface Architecture) protocol transmitted on the Cluster Foundation.
Scalable Internet Services (SIS) can also be termed scalable network services. It provides the means to address all cluster nodes, or more accurately the cluster application services, using a single IP address. This is sometimes known as “big IP”. Gateway nodes within SIS route the network transactions to the appropriate server(s) based upon a number of routing policies.
The Global Disk and File systems are similar in construct to Veritas SANPoint HA Cluster file system, and are a wholesale replacement of those facilities as well as other Veritas data management utilities such as VxVM and VxFS. PRIMECLUSTER can coexist with Veritas, but not while using a cluster file system: they are mutually exclusive.
The Global Link Services component of PRIMECLUSTER provides network trunking capabilities, although similar to the Sun trunking services the main distinction is that GLS can operate on up to four links versus only two available with Sun. This ensures both high availability and high performance.
