These new unified archiving options for Exchange Mailboxes and System Files servers can be used independently or in conjunction with the Backup Exec Deduplication Option. 1) As you can see here - Backup Exec 2010 easily integrates archive technology from a simple database backup. 2) Once the data is backed up – the archived is copied from the backup to the Vault and Indexed (“off-host” archive process)– over time this data can be more efficiently managed and migrated easily from tier 1 storage down to less expensive tier 2 and and tier 3 storage environments. 3) From there, the Vault archive will compare it’s data content to the source location (Exchange or File server) and delete duplicate data off the source to improve Exchange and File Server performance and reduce the backup window for those systems. 4) Then at any point once the data is archived – end users and administrators can easily retrieve archived data – for end users they will leverage Backup Exec Retrieve which a simple “Google like” browser to search or browse for archived content Finally it’s important to note that to further improve your customers storage savings – the archive option should be combined with the Deduplication Option (either client or media server) to reduce network and storage utilization associated with the initial backup.
