In this thesis we investigate some non-conventional applications of errorcorrecting
codes in communication systems. We do this by constructing
several families of, so called, cyclically permutable codes (CP codes) using
a well-known class of error-correcting codes: the linear cyclic codes.
We show how CP codes can be used, not only to provide us with robustness
against additive errors, but also to aid in synchronization or to allow
several user to share a single channel (multiple-access). Specifically, we
are interested in giving a unified description of sets of sequences suitable
for error-correction, synchronization and multiple-access, by using conventional
algebraic coding theory.
